I’ve been a perfumer for Mane since 2010 and I’ve created fragrances for Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein and Annick Goutal, to name but a few! Before joining Mane, I obtained a degree in chemistry and a diploma from ISIPCA before starting my training in a perfume house under the supervision of Pierre Bourdon, then Christine Nagel.
I knew I wanted to be a perfumer from a very early age. My father worked in the perfume industry and would bring home samples and raw materials. I developed a deep attachment to the language of fragrance. My curiosity regarding the various facets and characteristics of natural plants and raw materials became my greatest passion.
My inspiration comes first and foremost from natural ingredients. My job is to tell a story and unveil the best of the ingredients. I aim to bring these ingredients to life by highlighting their subtle facets. Each of the ingredients in my creations is there to enhance and improve the others, resulting in a harmonious movement as the fragrance unfolds.
I want the wearer to feel they’re surrounded by a halo of energy, like an invisible companion that protects and gives strength. So, it’s essential to create a warm, addictive facet. My signature is to give the fragrance a vibrant aura with a sense of encompassing affection.
As a perfumer, I’m constantly looking to rediscover ingredients to liberate myself from the idea that I like or don’t like an ingredient. This is where the real creation comes from, which means I can breathe new life into all the wonderful ingredients in my palette.
Many of these ingredients, like vetiver from Madagascar and centifolia rose from Grasse, hold a special place in my heart. I’ve met the people who tend to these plants and share my passion for preserving and communicating on their value and authenticity. But if I had to choose one, I’d go for bitter orange. It gifts us with its unwavering generosity: the green notes of the leaves, the woody notes of the branches, the sparkling notes of the fruit, and the soft, comforting floral notes of sublime orange blossom.
I wanted to create an expression of spring that conjures up warm, happy memories. Graceful Apricot and Freesia came to me as I was experimenting with floral and fruity accords, thinking of an English orchard. I was trying to replicate the exact smell that hits you when you walk past a beautiful garden or orchard in spring.
When I created Sunlit Clementine & Vetiver, it was really about bringing a feeling of sunshine all year. A fragrance so bright, warm, and sunny that you can’t help but feel happy and optimistic. It was important for me to focus on the longevity of the fragrance, so that anyone wearing it would feel a never-ending citrus aura.
As the first flower to bloom after winter, the scent of freesia in my garden is an enticing promise of warmer days to come. Its vibrant character is so fresh and lively with subtle fruity facets that I decided to bring it to light by adding apricot and mandarin. Holding a ripe apricot in your hand appeals to all the senses. The feel of its soft skin is an indulgent pleasure, and the sunny colour of its cheeks delivers instant joy. Apricot brings all this to the fragrance, giving it extra depth and warmth with its velvety tones, conveying its comforting, downy texture.
Magnolia also plays a prominent role in the composition. It’s another early spring flower and unfolds its majestic blossoms before the leaves appear, radiating strength and power. It adds a delightfully creamy, lemony touch with a delicate hint of peach that further enhances the fragrance’s lush profile.
With Sunlit Clementine & Vetiver, I wanted to highlight the bubbly lightness of citrus with an explosion of refreshing notes that convey energy and positivity.
For me, clementines represent sunshine all year round, brightening up dull, grey days and lifting my spirits with their vitamins and sparkling, juicy flavour. I love the tangy, sparkling, green and bitter notes that can be found in ripe but firm clementines.
I wanted to focus on the clementine notes in particular, as they have a complexity not found in other citrus fruits. The fragrance is more profuse, with such vibrancy that I’m instantly transported back to happy memories of Corsica, picking clementines with my family. I have a real fondness for this small, delicate fruit and for the precious childhood memories where the summer days now seem to last forever in my mind.
I’m very fond of clementines, not only because they remind me of home, but also because of their cheerful colour. A cheery bowl of clementines brightens up the kitchen table and symbolises the slow pace in the days following the harvest. The juice, the sunset colour, brings an instant boost of optimistic energy and warmth, inspiring me to connect with nature and find a sense of peace and rest. Bourbon vetiver is the perfect match for the clementine, contrasting with its personality and giving it strength and a unique profile. It’s a sophisticated ingredient found in the finest growing areas, bringing roundness, comfort, and texture to the creation. It’s a hearty note with woody, nutty facets from its noble, elegant roots.
I was lucky enough to travel to Madagascar and meet the people, farmers and families who grow this precious plant. It is therefore particularly rewarding to know that we are supporting local communities by using this specific ingredient.
It’s about how the fragrance makes me feel when I wear it, and the superpower it gives me: confidence, independence, audacity, boldness. Take your pick.
