L'Artisan Parfumeur was born out of a joke when one of Jean Laporte's friends asked him to use his training as a chemist to create a banana scent to wear with a costume made of the same fruit at the Folies Bergères ball. Inspired, he later created a fragrance of pample-mousse, then vanilla.
Jean Laporte followed his intuition and created various original scents with natural raw materials. This first collection was a remarkable success and Mr. Laporte was recognized as a passionate artist and was named L'Artisan Parfumeur by the greatest perfume lovers.
In 1976, L'Artisan Parfumeur was at the height of what is now known as Niche Perfumery.
The first l'Artisan Parfumeur shop opened its doors in 1979 in Paris. Since then, the brand has expanded around the world and has enjoyed great success, despite the rare status at the time of Jean Laporte as an independent perfumer.
Created with passion and artisanal finesse, each fragrance represents a different olfactory journey, imbued with the artistic flair and creative freedom of its master perfumer.
L'Artisan Parfumeur perfumes unite the careful craftsmanship of man with the bewitching beauty of nature. Their perfumers master the harmony and structure of each chosen note, as well as their subtle evolution as the fragrance unfolds on the skin.
We can distinguish 4 different ranges of fragrances: the fresh; the floral; the oriental; the woody.
L'Artisan Parfumeur also offers a unique selection of home fragrances, carefully designed to bring your home to life.
Their candles are contemporary objects of minimalist style, made with the utmost attention to detail and diffusing an unforgettable fragrance throughout your home.
Les Boules de L'Artisan Parfumeur scent the home in an elegant and chic way. The structure of the crystallized perfume allows the diffusion of the fragrance by hot air movements.
Carefully sculpted and finely chiselled, each hand-made sphere takes on an entirely unique shape. It represents a talent inherited from a mother to her daughter, and thus remains faithful to French craftsmanship.
Jean-François Laporte, a chemical engineer by training, opened his first boutique, l'Artisan Parfumeur in Paris in 1976. He equipped the place with a small laboratory, giving himself a playground to let his creativity run free. He devotes himself to the composition of authentic fragrances, often imagined around a main note, with a gourmand and unfettered passion.
Laporte, an artist endowed with an exacerbated sensitivity, is an epicurean at heart: man likes to make good flesh and this greediness can be found in his way of sublimating raw materials, daring to use them sometimes to saturation. A fervent lover of absolutes, he will never cease to place them at the heart of uncompromising fragrances, like so many vibrant declarations to life: Rose Opulente, Jasmine, or Tuberose symbolize his creativity and inalienable character. This audacity is also evident in his choice to emphasize materials such as celery, laurel or geranium to give birth to new fragrances.
